I volunteered with Caretta three years in a row at the end of high school and beginning of college. It was a great time getting to know some of the less visited parts of Wassaw Island. Working with Caretta was my first taste of doing fieldwork and collecting valuable data for a conservation biology project. The project has been around long enough that its beneficial impacts for the local Loggerhead population can be seen more clearly every year. It really opened my eyes to the rewards of such work and helped motivate me to pursue my current career path in fisheries research and conservation.
